Resident Evil Requiem Is Fantastic and Here’s Why It’s a GOTY Contender

We have only been playing Resident Evil: Requiem for about a week, and for many players it has already become one of the best games in Capcom’s franchise. It seems that the developers used previous entries in the series as inspiration to create the intense horror experience that players are now enjoying.

The title has become a major sales success, and its high quality across all aspects has led many players to consider it a clear candidate for the Game of the Year (GOTY) award in 2026, even though many other big releases are still expected this year.

Does Resident Evil: Requiem Deserve to Compete for GOTY?

Resident Evil Requiem Is Fantastic and Here’s Why It’s a GOTY Contender

Resident Evil: Requiem is clearly one of those games that deserves at least a nomination for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2026, which will take place in December. Below are five reasons why it could compete with other major releases arriving this year.

A Narrative That Goes Beyond Horror

Beyond the horror that the game successfully delivers, one of its strongest points is its narrative. Characters like Grace and Leon S. Kennedy play a major role in the story.

Both characters face complex and impactful moral dilemmas as the story progresses. The plot twists not only drive the story forward but also create a strong connection between the characters and the players.

Much More Than a Survival Horror

One of the key aspects of Resident Evil: Requiem is how it pushes the horror experience even further. Capcom has clearly focused on expanding what players expect from the series.

The game encourages players to explore every corner of its environments carefully, while constantly maintaining tension. Despite these changes, it still preserves the classic essence that fans have experienced in previous Resident Evil titles.

A Technical Section That Truly Stands Out

The game’s technical quality was noticeable from the very first images that were shown. Capcom used all its available resources to continue the legacy of the Resident Evil series.

The character models are highly detailed, adding realism to the game. The lighting and 3D sound design also play an important role, helping create an atmosphere that raises the overall experience to another level.

Levels Full of Details

Alongside the technical improvements, the level design also deserves special mention. Every area in Resident Evil: Requiem is filled with small details that encourage players to search for hidden secrets and references.

Many of these elements are connected with each other in interesting ways, rewarding players who take the time to explore the environments carefully.

Its Launch Has Made a Big Impact on the Gaming Community

Although Resident Evil: Requiem has been very successful in terms of sales, the game was already attracting attention long before its release.

Capcom’s strong promotion and the excitement around the title made it a constant topic on social media. After release, the game also received very positive reviews from gaming media, further strengthening its reputation, and it currently holds a score of 89 out of 100 on Metacritic.

Now the big question remains: Does Resident Evil: Requiem have everything it needs to compete for GOTY in 2026? Many players already believe it does, and it will likely appear among the nominees at The Game Awards later this year.

What do you think? Do you believe Resident Evil: Requiem deserves to compete for Game of the Year in 2026? Let us know your opinion in the comments below.

If you are still wondering if the game is worth buying, read our review where we gave it a score of 9.5 out of 10, stating, “Requiem is a love letter to its past and present, showing how wonderfully the two can coexist.”
