Starfield Brings Exclusive DualSense Features and PS5 Pro Enhancements to Sony Consoles

Bethesda’s massive space RPG, Starfield, is officially shedding its Xbox console exclusivity on April 7, arriving on PlayStation 5 with a suite of technical features tailored specifically for the platform. While the port marks a significant shift in Microsoft’s multi-platform strategy, the focus for players is on the integration of the DualSense controller. The PS5 version will utilize adaptive triggers to provide tactile resistance during firefights, while the controller’s light bar will act as a real-time health indicator, shifting to red as players take damage.

Beyond haptic feedback, the port introduces quality-of-life improvements through the DualSense touchpad, which will allow for quick navigation of the game’s expansive menus. Players can click specific sides of the pad to jump directly into the mission log or inventory, addressing a common critique regarding the original UI’s layered navigation. Furthermore, voice logs discovered throughout the Settled Systems will play back through the controller’s internal speaker, a feature intended to deepen the immersion during planetary exploration.

Technical performance sees a significant boost for those moving to the PS5 Pro. The mid-generation refresh will offer exclusive “Pro Visual” and “Pro Performance” modes, both of which leverage PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling. The Visual mode targets a crisp 4K output at 30 frames per second, while the Performance mode aims for a fluid 60 FPS. Standard PS5 users are expected to retain the same toggle options found on Xbox Series X, including the ability to prioritize frame rate at the cost of some internal resolution.

The launch on April 7 coincides with the debut of the Terran Armada expansion and a substantial free content update titled “Free Lanes.” Early data suggests the transition to PlayStation will be a commercial success; Starfield has already climbed into the top five most pre-ordered titles on the PlayStation Store, trailing only the highly anticipated Crimson Desert. For Bethesda, this release represents a return to its multi-platform roots, ensuring the studio’s latest universe is accessible to the widest possible audience.
