Crimson Desert Players May Have Found ‘AI Slop’ Images in the game

Crimson Desert

Crimson Desert is off to a great start, with the open world title selling 2 million units within the first day of it’s release and getting pretty good reviews across the board. If you love open world exploration and gameplay, it’s safe to say that you owe it to yourself to experience Crimson Desert as the game has been designed to tick all your fantasy gameplay boxes and then some.

And while the sales numbers are sure to go much higher in the coming days and weeks, in the meantime, Crimson Desert seems to have hit a juncture that it should’ve done all it can to avoid, which is AI usage in the game’s art assets as according to several players, one Redditor has discovered what seems like AI generated artwork in the game.

Now many developers have openly admitted in using AI tools for creating their game in more ways than one but the topic of AI is still a hugely divisive one as it not only undermines the works of actual human artists but also makes it possible to remove the entire human element from a game altogether.

Another reason why players are not in the favor of generative AI usage in games is it takes the industry to a place where many artists and developers would be easily replaceable and can even be let go by the studios (as have happened many times as well as right now across many studios) or in other words, AI usage can endanger actual artists in a real way and as huge corporations have in the past, have put profit over people many times, the validity of the concern for jobs is undeniable.

Developer Pearl Abyss is yet to comment on the situation however they may do so pretty soon as discovering AI art ain’t a good look for any game out there.
