God of War Trilogy Remake To Feature A New Combat System

While the older God of War trilogy will be getting a full remake for the current era it seems the modernized version of the classic titles will not have the same flavor of gameplay that was part of the reason why those games became so memorable and endearing. According to Christopher Judge, the current voice actor for Kratos, the upcoming God of War trilogy remake is going to feature “new technology” in addition to a “new fighting system”.

However no further details were revealed on the new combat system but it could be a far cry from the hack-n-slash or pure action genre which the older God of War trilogy was based on and which also fits the overall narrative perfectly.

Rebsgaming has posted on Twitter/X that YouTuber Fuzhpuzy had the opportunity to meet Judge who voices Kratos in both God of War 2018 and God of War: Ragnarok, and had asked whether he’ll be a part of the upcoming remake in any way. To which Judge replied ‘No’ and said that the remake will be voiced entirely by TC Carson who was the original voice actor of Kratos from the older trilogy.

Judge also revealed that the new remake will be built in a whole new fighting system which is also what many fans of the earlier games were concerned about. If the earlier titles were simply remastered in the current-gen technical standards, we’d have gotten the same great action combat that had defined the original trilogy but the fact that it’s a remake, meant we might be getting the earlier games but with the revamped and much watered-down fighting system that’s in both God of War 2018 and God of War: Ragnarok.

Now it’s true that the new combat system is still pretty decent but it just can’t hold a candle to the relentless and spectacular action of the first three God of War titles which made those games shining examples of some of the best hack-n-slash combat in gaming, alongside the DMC and the Ninja Gaiden series.

In other news of God of War, the most recent title in the series, Sons of Sparta, has received mixed response from critics and is currently the lowest rated title in the franchise.
