The premier arcade racing franchise in the world right now, Forza Horizon 5 continues speeding to victory on the Playstation 5 as recent research from Alinea Analytics reveals the open world racing title have crossed over 5 million copies sold on the Sony platform which estimates to more than $300 million in terms of total revenue on the PS5 alone for the 2021 game.
According to Alinea’s Rhys Elliott, the huge sales numbers of Forza Horizon 5 clearly prove Microsoft’s strategy of launching more of their own titles in their rival platform has been incredibly successful by all metrics.
“Xbox’s move to third-party is no mystery, especially given Microsoft’s lofty profitability mandates,” Elliott wrote.
And if you don’t know already, Microsoft does provide a sizable portion of the total revenue to Sony which is currently a share of 70/30.
Back in July, it was reported that Forza Horizon 5 on the PS5 had already managed to sold over 2 million units worldwide which happened in a month since it was released on the platform. One of the first Xbox-exclusive titles to be released on the Playstaion 5, Forza Horizon 5 was received phenomenally well on Sony’s console with the arcade racer being one of the titles to shine exceptionally on the more powerful PS5 Pro console by offering extensive Ray Tracing capabilities that’s just not available on the Xbox platform.
Forza Horizon 5 was released for the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Xbox Game Pass in November 2021, while also launching for the PlayStation 5 on April 29 last year. The game received wide critical acclaim upon release and is currently one of the most well-reviewed titles in the racing genre.
The next Forza title on the horizon (pun intended) or Forza Horizon 6, is expected to be showcased at the upcoming Xbox Developer Direct event on January 22, so stay tuned for more exciting updates on the series later this month.
