Fable is coming back, and this wasn’t in the bingo card of anyone considering how lackluster was the reception towards the original, despite the game having a cult following. A new trailer showcases some of the gameplay going on with this new rebooted entry, and it promises to take us back to Albion in a rather new way. Maybe with all the technological leaps that we have had since many times in the past this new Fable entry can deliver on what it promised more than 20 years ago. At the same time, I also want everyone to have their expectations grounded and remain realistic.
Fable is back
Peter Molyneux is quite the controversial figure in the gaming industry, mostly being a hype man who overvalued the games made by him, and he even admits to have reached to various job positions in the industry by being very clever rather than properly skillful. Back in the early days of gaming he created The Entrepeneur, a game that was a huge flop because he overestimated how much it would sell, citing that you could call a game anything and people would still but it. This was a huge mistake, and something that would keep repeating through his career if not for the help of others.
Molyneux has worked with EA games, the decrepit company that we know today, and even back then he wasn’t really sure if he was at the right place, Fable might have been his claim to fame, but that was based on pure hype rather that delivery. Maybe this new entry, a properly rebooted Fable game will actually redeem his career, and mark yet another Populous moment that he has been waiting for. We aren’t really sure, so its better to keep expectations low if the game happens to disappoint yet again.
