Where Winds Meet Adds Vehicle Building Mechanic, Inspired by Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The open-world martial arts RPG, Where Winds Meet, is introducing a new vehicle building system that clearly takes inspiration from one of 2023’s top games. Developer Everstone Studios recently launched the “Ink Structure” mechanic. This feature lets players combine components to create custom vehicles, reminiscent of the Ultrahand ability in Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It is currently available on the game’s Chinese servers, having launched on November 28. A global release is planned, but there is no specific date yet.

Ink Structure allows players to turn simple materials, such as mechanics and wood, into complex working machines. Early gameplay footage shows players making basic utility carts, fast-moving vehicles, and even simple flying machines like helicopters and flying carts. This level of creative freedom will likely attract players from Tears of the Kingdom, who famously pushed that system to create everything from advanced fighting robots to popular sci-fi vehicles. With this background, the Where Winds Meet community is expected to show similar creativity.

The mechanic will also change how players travel and interact within the game. The introduction of custom vehicles will offer new ways to explore the vast Wuxia world and tackle tricky combat situations. Additionally, Ink Structure is integrated into the game’s collection systems, with new vehicle parts—some with special abilities—spread across the map for players to find. The system also supports multiplayer, allowing users to share their best or most unusual designs with others.

This significant update builds on the already successful free-to-play game. Where Winds Meet quickly gained over two million players within 24 hours of its global launch, becoming one of the most-played titles on Steam soon after. Everstone Studios is clearly taking advantage of this momentum to further improve the game. While the global release date for Ink Structure is still unknown, the developers have hinted at more quality-of-life updates for future patches. These will include fixes for Solo Mode lag, better compatibility with Steam Deck, and enhanced visual performance on the PlayStation 5.
