Hollow Knight Silksong just snatched a win from the fierce competition, but still it does not feel like its enough at least for me. Many fans seem to agree that The Game Awards felt more like the Clair Obscur Expedition 33 awards and it was honestly a mess. It is clear that the event does have some issues when it comes to nominations, not allowing many games to get the spotlight they deserved. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 got back home with 0 awards whatsoever, truly painful for a team that did so much to bring us quality.
Hollow Knight Silksong deserves more
At the very least, it got the award for best Action Adventure game, an achievement on itself when you think about the competition it had to face. It is true that neither Clair Obscur Expedition 33 or Hollow Knight Silksong are indies however, and there should have been more opportunities for true indie titles to rise forward. It is sad to see that practically every important award went to a game funded by billionaires, but at least its for the sake of art, and even then I would be doubtful about it due to the confirmed use of “AI” assets for prototyping that infested the game but got patched out.
At the very least, the stance of the people behind Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is being against this damaging fad, they just need to be more clear with what happened there. Maybe it was a quirk of the engine, since that game was made in Unreal Engine 5, regardless of this, Hollow Knight Silksong deserved more, as it was a game released with 0 controversies whatsoever. The only truth behind this is that few games got the right awards, but nobody should mind it, this event shouldn’t dictate how we see games at all.
