Epic Games Store has a free game that surprised many, Sorry We’re Closed is the winner of the of the debut indie category and it is truly amazing. This retro Resident Evil inspired game has all the markings of a great survival horror, and the title of best debut indie game is more fitting despite the fact indies shouldn’t have a publisher behind. True indies are self published works that are risky and eventually accrue a huge mass of players over time, things like Megabonk are indie titles and even still, the developer decided not to participate since it wasn’t his first.
Epic Games Store did something neat
We all hate Epic Games however, because their handling of the store makes it not a good place to be or buy stuff in. The only time they are even worth it is when they just put free stuff up, Steam is the better option in most cases as they actually disclose usage of “AI” content on the games. Where sometimes stuff slips from being declared, since the system relies in good faith usually coming from the bad actors themselves, people end up being more inclined to lie about it such as Goonswarm Games.
However we all know lies can’t reach far enough, because Goonswarm Games was blasted and the company just ceased to exist, Epic Games Store is fearful about this because they are supporters of the slop and try to survive with it. At least games like Sorry We’re Closed are proof that true artists still exist and they will keep existing as time goes on and fads change. Attempting to change art is like trying to move an entire mountain that has been with us since the beginning of mankind, you just can’t do it, and oftentimes things that proud themselves on being revolutionary just fall flat.
