Creative Director of Rainbow Six Siege Explains Why A Sequel is Not Coming Anytime Soon

Rainbow Six Siege

Released just about a decade ago, Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege has been phenomenally successful as a tactical, online multiplayer shooter that has also evolved into a huge Esports event all around the world, a staggering feat that most live-service games aren’t even close to getting yet. But despite it’s overwhelming popularity, Rainbow Six Siege creative director Alexander Karpazis explains there’s good reason why you shouldn’t expect Rainbow Six Siege 2 or a sequel anytime in the near future. Speaking to Gamespot, he states:

“Honestly, I think there are tons of reasons against it, just like there are reasons for it,” Karpazis said. “But for us, it’s about maintaining something that has been successful and competitive and fun for such a long time. We see it where players kind of get the rug pulled out from under them, and everything they’ve worked towards kind of changes in an instant when they jump over to a sequel. And that’s something we don’t want to do to our players. So there’s an element of respecting players’ investment. There’s also an element of, this is an amazing legacy we’re building–why would we want to throw that away?”

His reasoning is absolutely correct on all levels and it’s also pretty surprising from Ubisoft that they prefer to keep and respect the players’ choice than to dilute it all with franchise machinations which could indeed have lots of negative impacts on the playerbase. In the current state of the industry where corporations and publishers often prioritize profit over the actual players, it’s refreshingly earnest to see Ubisoft putting the players first with Rainbow Six Siege.

The Siege X update was released back in June for Rainbow Six Siege and had brought exciting new gameplay features and functionalities for all players that included modernized maps, visual upgrades, a new 6v6 game mode called Dual Front and many more important additions.
