Pillars of Eternity 2 is one of the unfortunate games that got hit by the terrible Unity exploit that is currently plaguing thousands of PC and console games. This sad situation could have been prevented if Unity cared, but thankfully the developers at Obsidian actually care about doing what’s right and this pull will be something momentary, in fact, I can still see the game being there, and it even has a 75% discount tag in it. It seems that you are able to buy it but you can’t really install it yet. Pillars of Eternity is truly an amazing series of CRPGs that many people need to try out to be honest.
Pillars of Eternity 2 has been purged for now
There’s still no say in how much doing fixes will take, because this problem is already too big. Developers should also focus on finding fallback engines to try and make their games in, because depending on Unity has shown time and time again that relying on such a company can cause more issues and for a premium price too. We still need to remember this is the same company that decided that indie games should pay the price with massive hikes in prices, along with indie developers being use as infection vectors to distribute malware with their games.
Pillars of Eternity 2 is a game that can be done in any engine really, being tied to a singular one might be the way to go because people don’t have time. Back in the day however, games like Planescape Torment, who are pretty much the inspiration for Pillars of Eternity 2 were made by scratch and with customized engines. We don’t really have time nowadays, the industry is rife with crunch, corruption and people who only care about money, while having the gall of still saying that they wanna do works of art to replace previous antique works.
