Blizzard Entertainment has gone public with the details for Haunted Masquerade (Season 19), the seasonal update for Overwatch 2 to be released on October 14. This Halloween Terror game mode, as named after the update, highlights a continuation of the annual commitment of the franchise toward the holiday event. The offering this year will run until November 3 and does things differently in terms of PVE, by putting players in masks of other heroes to allow them to use unique abilities. There are some new twists to this update, giving players bonuses through synergy by choosing masks that correspond with established character lore (e.g. Reinhardt and Brigitte) in order to gain greater bonuses and go deeper into character backstories.
As standard with any seasonal rollout, Season 19 brings a full-out overhaul on the Battle Pass and Mythic skin rotation. The premium track gives players various themed cosmetics, including Vampire Moira, Ninja Sombra, and the very unique Cursed Teddy Zenyatta skins. Moreover, at launch, the Divine Druid Lifeweaver will be in the Mythic skin store, as well as a Spirit Keeper weapon cosmetic for Kiriko. More so, the devs have hinted that players might want to hoard their Mythic Prisms as the much-awaited Cyber Fuel Junkrat Mythic skin is set to be released during the mid-season update.
Apart from the seasonal event, major enhancements toward quality-of-life features and content are delivered to the new Stadium game mode. The hero roster for this custom mode gets a whopping expansion as Torbjorn, Hazard, and Sojourn join in. Stadium Armory is also set to get a much-needed update with advanced searching features, plus dedicated sub-tabs for managing the various builds. Adding a layer of utility and strategy are Gadgets, which are a new class of consumable items, whereas customizable Combat Text allows players to personalize the active readout of damage and healing numbers.
Most forward-lookingly, the Season 19 announcements confirmed and briefly teased the next new Overwatch 2 hero. The character is heavily implied to be the melee gladiator known only as the “Wolf of Retribution”. Although concrete details on her full ability kit remain scarce, a specific trial period for the new hero is set to happen sometime during the season, likely during the mid-season update. This planned reveal maintains Blizzard’s historical willingness to put out big new content regularly and represents a major moment for the players thirsty to see how the ever-growing hero pool will change the competitive meta.
