With the launch of Battlefield 6 yesterday, the war for the best first person shooter experience of 2025 has officially kicked off and so far, EA’s flagship shooter is doing phenomenally well as it has already surpassed it’s rival Call of Duty’s all time concurrent player counts on Steam by a significant amount. At the time of this writing, Battlefield 6 has garnered a staggering player count of 747,440, where rival franchise Call of Duty’s all-time highest player count is at 491,670 which makes DICE’s first person shooter the second most played title on Steam, behind only Counter Strike 2.
Moreover, the numbers of the full release of Battlefield 6 has also easily beaten it’s open beta’s highest player count which was at a massive 521,079 and to put all those numbers in perspective, no other Battlefield title has ever come close to reaching that many players on Steam which is even higher than EA’s previous record holder, the free-to-play title Apex Legends.
Also, it’s actually been less than full 24 hours of the game’s release so Battlefield 6 could very well end up doubling the overall player counts of it’s rival which would be mighty impressive in every way. Of course if you take into account the total number of gamers playing Battlefield 6 including players on both Playstation and Xbox platforms, the overall player count would be exponentially higher though it applies to Call of Duty as well which has much higher player numbers on the consoles than on PC.
As a sort of unintended but perhaps inevitable consequence, players of Battlefield 6 are currently facing huge server queues right now but hopefully it’ll be a matter of time for EA and DICE to sort things out for all players out there. But judging by the overall numbers, it’s safe to say that Battlefield 6 has indeed become a massive hit, just as EA had hoped it would. And the game being heavily optimized and performing incredibly well on the vast majority of CPU and GPUs out there has also contributed a lot in reaching this many players in such as short time.
