Activision has made the last entry in their Call of Duty franchise, Black Ops 6 free to play all throughout the launch week of Battlefield 6 which means you can play the previous COD title for free between October 9th and October 16th.
A move that’s obviously designed as an attempt to steal some of the thunders of Battlefield 6, Activision is offering full access to Black Ops 6’s single player campaign as well as all of it’s Multiplayer and Zombies contents including it’s 40+ maps and everything else. The free trial of Black Ops 6 also includes new content from The Haunting update, like the Gravity, Rig, and Mothball Multiplayer maps, Haunted Havoc Zombies limited-time mode and many more.
And though this is clearly a move from Activision to steer away some of the players from Battlefield 6, there’s actually little chance of it working cause as the previous entry in the COD series, Black Ops 6’s overall gameplay is already kind of outdated which has been improved upon by the upcoming Black Ops 7 in a myriad of ways so there’s not a lot of incentive for going back to a title that’s already surpassed by it’s own successor. The single player campaign of Black Ops 6 was also a letdown, especially from the usual COD flavor-of-gameplay standpoint which works by blending cinematic, story-driven gameplay that mimics the intensity and thrill of a big budget Hollywood film.
But still, this attempt at making a COD title available for free during Battlefield 6’s launch week seems totally unfair and pretty much a move that has the potential to make Activision hugely unpopular among a lot of FPS fans out there. Cause in case of any competition, both games should be given the chance to appeal to gamers solely by their own merits and not by one of them trying to interfere with the other’s release week with tactics such as these.
Battlefield 6 is slated to be released on October 10 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and the PC platform.
