The highly anticipated Season 5 Reloaded update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has introduced a significant file reorganization. While the goal was to reduce the game’s overall size, it is causing a serious problem for some players. Many users, especially those on PlayStation 5, are reporting that the update is completely deleting the game from their systems. This forces them to download a file nearly 100 GB in size again.
The main aim of this update was to significantly cut down the total file size of the game. This change was long awaited by players dealing with the franchise’s large storage demand. However, it has created an unexpected issue for many PS5 owners. The process requires players to reinstall various game packs after the initial download. Although the download itself is substantial at 98 GB, the final installed size on the console is a much slimmer 27 GB. The problem seems to stem from this new file structure, as players need to reinstall essential components, which has understandably led to frustration.
To help ease the inconvenience, Activision has announced compensation for all players who download the update. Players who log into the game between September 4 and October 1 will receive fifteen 1-hour XP tokens. This includes five tokens each for Double Player XP, Double Weapon XP, and Double Battle Pass XP. This gesture aims to acknowledge and compensate for the disruption caused by the update’s technical issues. The exact cause of this problem on PlayStation 5 is still unclear. Players are being advised to manage their game installations manually to address the problem.
The reorganization of game files is a preparatory step for the upcoming Black Ops 7 open beta, set to begin in October. The beta will first be available for early access to pre-order customers on October 2 before opening to all players on October 5. This update is a necessary, albeit troubled, lead-in to the next installment in the franchise, which is scheduled for a full release on November 14 for multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
