EA Clarifies How Battlefield 6 Crossplay Will Work

EA has clarified how crossplay will work in Battlefield 6. The company states that turning off this feature will only let players match with others on the same platform. This contradicts an earlier report. Initially, the publisher said that console users who disable crossplay could still play with other console players on PlayStation and Xbox. However, that will not be the case once the game launches on October 10.

Crossplay is an important feature in the upcoming shooter. Although it’s optional for console players, enabling it will lead to faster matchmaking since there will be more players available. Turning off the feature will, however, lower the player count and increase queue times. PC players will not have the option to turn off crossplay; it will always be on by default.

This clarification comes just over three weeks before the game’s release. As reported by Dexerto, a feature for console-only crossplay will not be available. But when filling out the matchmaking pool, the game will prioritize other console players over PC players. This new information contradicts a prior statement from Matthew Nickerson of Ripple Effect, who said PlayStation players could still compete with Xbox players even if crossplay was turned off.

The main reason for the controversy between PC and console players regarding crossplay is the advantages PC players have. These include using a keyboard and mouse, having more powerful hardware, and being able to cheat. EA and the development team have stated that they are working on ways to address cheating.
