Despite the widespread layoffs by Microsoft in last month which have heavily impacted Turn 10 Studios, the developers of the highly acclaimed Forza Motorsport series of racing simulators, the studio along with developer Playground Games (the devs behind the Forza Horizon series) have confirmed that they will continue to support both Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon which is great news for all players of those games. In a post on social media, the developers wrote:
“Dear Forza Community, we know many of you have questions about what’s next for the Forza franchise, and we appreciate the support of our incredible community. We wanted to assure players that Turn 10 and Playground Games will continue to support Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon 5. To start, here’s more info about what’s coming next to Forza Motorsport: http://aka.ms/FMUpdate21Tours“.
The devs have linked to a post detailing some of the new contents coming to Forza Motorsport which includes new featured tours, whole new cars that can be unlocked through in-game challenges along with new featured rivals. The new update for Forza Motorsport is currently expected to arrive in September.
And while the devs have ensured continued support for Forza Motorsport, the future of the series is still unknown after the brutal layoffs at Xbox in July where up to 50% of Turn 10 studios were let go with the remaining developers turned into a support studio for the Forza Horizon series.
The first Forza Motorsport was released back in 2005 for the original Xbox as a competition for Sony’s massively successful and acclaimed Gran Turismo series of racing simulators. The Motorsport series was a huge success which saw a total of seven sequels that were launched across every Xbox Console generation with each gaining tons of acclaim and accolades.
But after the current massive layoffs by Microsoft, Forza Motorsport as an entire series is reportedly no more as no one at Turn 10 Studios are currently working on it which is both sad and heartbreaking for everyone who has loved the series since it’s first release.
