Ahead of it’s launch on both PS5 and PS5 Pro today, developer Ninja Theory has shared a new video on Youtube detailing the work they’ve put into making a port of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 on the Sony platform which is also the birthplace of the series. Technical Director Gavin Costello has outlined several facets of the Enhanced version of the game that’s set to arrive on the PS5 systems including the exceptional platform integration of Epic that has made the job of the devs much easier to get Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 up and running on Sony’s consoles and getting an overview of the performance that players can expect out of it.
To start off, players on both PS5 and PS5 Pro can expect support for platform-specific features such as Adaptive Feedback, Haptic Triggers and Dolby Atmos along with several graphical enhancements tailored for the PS5 Pro version of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 including PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution and Variable Rate Shading which will make the game even more visually enriched and realistic. The greater rendering capabilities of the PS5 Pro has enabled Ninja Theory to implement features from an updated version of the Unreal 5 engine to the latest console which will make for a more enhanced visual experience on the PS5 Pro.
However, players on the PC platform won’t be left behind on the technological front either as a new ‘Very High’ graphical quality setting will be arriving with the free Enhanced updated for Hellblade 2, offering much greater visual fidelity than before. Also, the Xbox Series X will receive a ‘Performance mode’ for the game, enabling a locked and silky-smooth 60 FPS experience for all players.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is the latest in the line of former Xbox exclusive titles to arrive on Sony’s platforms as Microsoft is now making the Playstation as another platform where players can experience all of it’s first-party games. And although the games arrive on Sony’s platforms at a much later date than it had first arrived on the Xbox systems, they do offer additional contents which seems like a fair trade-off.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 came out in 2024 as a sequel to Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, which was released in 2017. Set in 9th century Iceland, Hellblade 2 puts players in the shoes of a Celtic warrior named Senua, who battles supernatural entities in her mind as well as in real life. The game was particularly praised for it’s cinematic gameplay and visual realism as well as storytelling which was laser-focused and worth revisiting.
