Tamagotchi Plaza is a great addition to a Tamagotchi lovers collection. However, this isn’t the first Tamagotchi game we have had – Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop which was released on the Nintendo DS, and later got a sequel as well. But, now we are on a whole different console, the Nintendo Switch 2. Quite honestly, this game doesn’t show the Nintendo Switch 2’s abilities all that well, but the game is colorful and cute.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is a pretty powerful console, especially compared to where the original Switch has been to where even Fortnite struggles to run on it, and games like Tamagotchi Plaza don’t give the system an opportunity to test its limits. For me, I really enjoy cozy games that are bright, cute, and give me small tasks to complete to where I won’t feel overwhelmed by too many things, Tamagotchi Plaza is exactly that.
Tamagotchi Plaza is another game within the Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop series, taking place within Tamahiko Town which is on Tamagotchi Planet featuring many of everyone’s favorite characters. The overall premse of the game is to upgrade the shops within the plaza, which consists of playing the mini games each shop has. There is a total of 10 different shops (12 if you purchased the Nintendo Switch 2 edition/upgrade.)
Players will be required to upgrade the stores in town in order to progress and get to the end goal of the game, which is to build up the community and raise the town’s reputation by improving the shops and the town square. Another unique feature of this game that unlocks even more is having a Tamagotchi Uni, which is a regular Tamagotchi that connects via WiFi to give more bonuses. There are over 100 different Tamagotchi to be seen within Tamagotchi Plaza.
Another Day At The…Dentist?
The mini games are obviously the main part of the game, and the first one I tried myself was the dentist game. This game requires the player to help Tamagotchi have healthier teeth by cleaning them, putting braces on them, pulling some weird looking cavity monsters out of the cavities in their teeth, and also making sure to keep the water levels in their mouth low by using the sucking tool throughout the session as well. I honestly really enjoyed this one, just because I loved that there is many steps that have to be done in a certain order for them then be able successfully complete the session.
Another few games I enjoyed a lot where the fashion designer game where players would be given an image of the outfit and they were to recreate it. Players will have to take different shapes of fabric and piece it together to make the style of the shift, dress, or other article of clothing the customer wants and then apply the coloring and other things to it. Afterward, it is given to the customer and a rating is provided. With each passing mini game a rating is given, and this will be the users guide to know when to perform better for certain games.
What is a little bit hilarious but also annoying is the system the game requires in order for the shops to be upgraded. It isn’t a system to where players just need to collect a certain amount of money or evening a leveling type system, instead players will have to keep playing the game long enough for the Prince to arrive. If the player exits out of the game, I did notice it seems to take longer so it seems base to play for longer periods.
Once the Prince becomes a customer for each of the mini games, and the outcome is well, he will then bring up how he enjoyed the services and thinks the shop should be upgraded. Then the game will leave an opening for “you” and the Tamagotchi that owns the shop/mini game to discuss the upgrade – from there you can decide if you want to do it or not, but doing it is probably best. So you can see how upgrading can be time consuming.
However, I do enjoy the simpler mini games that Tamagotchi Plaza offers, especially when I found myself earlier this week trying to relax and rest from my busy day and I picked up my Switch 2 to play this game and found myself very content. The only major concern I have is how long it will take to max out the upgrade levels of every store within the Plaza. Especially since some shops will require to be upgraded to a certain point before collabing together like they are supposed to within the plot. It is also worth noting that the game has offline two player modes for some of the mini games, making it fun for the whole family.
Tamagotchi Yes? or Tamagotchi No?
Overall, I really liked playing Tamagotchi Plaza. As someone who enjoys games like Animal Crossing and Hello Kitty Island Adventure to chill and relax to after a long day, this game was up my alley. However, I do wish there was a bit more to it. Maybe a bit more to do? Maybe even outfits that we can choose to place on our Tamagotchi. After seeing all the different things that people who own the Tamagotchi Uni can do on their device, it makes it seem that this game wasn’t worked on the same way.
The Tamagotchi Uni has events, DLC, and even allows you to connect and visit friends from the tiny device. It also allows you to collect many Tamagotchi, and dress them however you like while taking care of them. So you can see how I feel the Nintendo Switch 2 game didn’t get the same love. But, the game does go very well with the Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop series, and it is a good continuation of the universe. especially a much newer console than the DS.
I would recommend this game to someone who thinks they would enjoy it. Because it is definitely not for everyone. But, for those who would like it, it is a very peaceful and fun game, even while there might not be a lot to do or the way the upgrading system works seems a bit time consuming. The game does setup for what could be a good opportunity to bring more Tamagotchi games to the switch and maybe one day, the old ones from the DS will join it on the console.
Tamagotchi Plaza Review (Switch 2) Verdict
Tamagotchi Plaza: The game is a great add-on to the already beloved series on the DS. While I do wish there was more to do within the game, I love spending hours playing the cute little mini games within the plaza. I would recommend the game to those who think they will like it. – faithlane17
