A former Turn 10 employee has made the claim that Forza Horizon 5 has already confirmed to have sold 2 million copies on the Playstation 5 in a single month since it came out on Sony’s platform. One of the first Xbox-exclusive titles to be released on the Playstaion 5, Forza Horizon 5 was received phenomenally well on Sony’s console with the arcade racer being one of the titles to shine exceptionally on the more powerful PS5 Pro console by offering extensive Ray Tracing capabilities that’s just not available on the Xbox platform.
On LinkedIn, a former employee of Turn 10 Studios impacted by the recent widespread layoffs from Microsoft, had wrote that he “created cross-platform feature designs enabling Forza Horizon 5 to sell two million units in one month on PS5 alone.”
However, the LinkedIn profile was promptly updated to remove his comment on Forza Horizon 5, so it’s likely that he wasn’t really allowed to talk about the sales numbers of the game on the PS5 yet or just maybe his information was simply inaccurate so he removed the post himself. But anyway, the sales numbers could be true just as well so we’ll have to wait for Microsoft or Sony’s future announcements regarding Forza Horizon 5’s commercial performance on the PS5.
There are several valid reasons why those numbers could be true and one of them is that in the past few years, we really haven’t had a solid arcade racer except for Forza Horizon 5 as Need for Speed Unbound, which is the most recent arcade racing title from EA, hasn’t really been a hit with both the critics and the player base, so it’s likely that Horizon 5 got all of the player base for itself.
Forza Horizon 5 was released for the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Xbox Game Pass in November 2021, while also launching for the PlayStation 5 on April 29 this year. The game received wide critical acclaim upon release and is currently one of the most well-reviewed titles in the racing genre.
