Square Enix has released word of the remake of the classic tactics RPG, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. It’s being released in September, and this remake will bring a more refined experience for long-time gamers and new gamers to Ivalice in equal measure. Maybe the most significant alteration is the huge amount of character dialogue, which will doubtless be welcomed by the die-hard fan base.
Game director Kazutoyo Maehiro has spoken just recently regarding such changes in an interview. He explained that main heroes like Agrias, Cid, and Mustadio will have significantly more dialogue lines during crucial battles. This should close one of the criticisms of the first release back in 1997, where the narrative potential for certain mercenary characters were squandered after they were used. Apart from that, game scriptwriter Yasumi Matsono also ensured that the game script is completely revised in order to incorporate the new voice acting to make the story rich and smooth.
Though revealed in June 2025’s State of Play proper, the remaster will also include some tweaks to make the game look newer. One should, however, point out that some of the content of the 2007 PSP game, The War of the Lions, like some of the cutscenes and some of the characters, will be excluded.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles will be available on September 30, 2025, across some platforms such as PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. The game will be available in both digital and physical copies for pre-order. Maehiro further hinted at the release of other Final Fantasy Tactics titles, subject to the feedback from fans and sales of the highly anticipated remaster.
