Some already know what will happen, but for now, its important to remember this is a celebration first, a celebration of an amazing JRPG title that has lived with us for 25 years, and still remains one of the best on the PS1. Yes, its sales were not so good, but the numbers it put are amazing for a title that dropped right when the PS1 died thanks to the PS2 release, its also quite fitting to the story of the game in a way. We at Infinite Start will celebrate too.
Final Fantasy IX gets 25th Anniversary celebration
The shortfilm in question is accompanied by the song Melodies Of Life – Timeless Tale, and this version is actually ripped straight from the vinyl that was published recently on the Square Enix store. There’s a ton of of cutscenes from the game that seem to be upscaled, probably taken from the PC port even, its pretty much a small gift for those who have played the original in the year 2000. Not selling well does not imply that the game is bad, on the contrary, there’s a ton of amazing games that sold almost nothing, such as Cross Code.
The Final Fantasy franchise is vast, and it has many titles that under performed. Even the Final Fantasy 7 Remake is being praised despite Square Enix seeing it as a failure. Things have changed in the medium, and sometimes its fine to let things go, one can still revisit Final Fantasy IX in all their low poly and pre-rendered glory, as the game is still around with us and its easy to access. You can even buy the PC port if you desire to do so too, it truly is a timeless tale in a way when you think about it.
