It seems EA wants their upcoming Battlefield 6 to be the defining First Person Shooter experience of the entire current generation–with the game reportedly being made with a colossal budget of over $400 million and an equally ambitious target of reaching 100 million players when it comes out. And with Battlefield 6’s official reveal expected sometimes this summer, it seems more information regarding EA’s flagship FPS franchise is headed our way.
According to a recent report by Ars Technica, EA’s original target for the estimated budget of Battlefield 6 was a whopping $400 million at the time of 2023, which was significantly higher than the company’s initial plans for the shooter. Also, the report says that several major production setbacks in the development phases caused hundreds of additional developers from various EA-owned studios to be brought into the development of Battlefield 6, which pushed the overall costs even higher.
Looking at the overall number of studios at work for Battlefield 6, it’s clear that the reports are completely accurate as well as indicative of EA’s ambitions behind the shooter.
The teams currently working on the next Battlefield game are the series’ original Sweden-based developer DICE, Dead Space remake and Star Wars: Squadrons developer Motive, U.S. studio Ripple Effect, and UK–based Criterion Games from Need for Speed Unbound (as well as the Burnout series of racing games) who has recently joined development for the next Battlefield.
The report also lays down EA’s ambitions with the upcoming shooter as the company is aiming for a player base of 100 million which is pretty astounding as Battlefield 6 has be a real banger of a shooter in order to get that many players engage with the game. And looking at the budget and other initiative made by EA such as Battlefield Labs, it clearly seems they are doing their best to make the game as groundbreaking and successful as they can.
However, not everyone involved in the development agrees with EA’s target number of 100 million players as one source have said to Ars Technica, “Nothing in the market research or our quality deliverables indicates that we would be anywhere near that.”
Several leaked gameplay footage of Battlefield 6 have also surfaced online recently and though all of them have been taken down promptly, the videos showcase all the defining features of the series in their full glory such as the completely destructible environments that add a whole new layer of experience in the gameplay, the tense and thrilling moment-to-moment gunplay and many more.
Battlefield 6 is expected to arrive sometimes in 2026.
