Nintendo Canada announced future price changes to its flagship Switch console lineup and associated products, which will take effect on August 1, 2025. The change, listed on the Canadian webpage of the company, includes the base Nintendo Switch console, travel-friendly Switch Lite, and high-end OLED Switch model, and their respective software games, amiibo figures, and Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions.

Even as formal affirmation teases out the appetite with failure to declare increases or reductions in these adjustments, market observers and previous pronouncements by Nintendo indicate an increase as most likely. This conforms to a larger sector pattern, as seen in corresponding hardware price hikes from rival platforms such as Xbox earlier this year, attributing the same “evolving market conditions” for their pricing adjustments. Financial realities usually necessitate careful realignments in price to remain profitable and competitive in the market.

Notably, the prices of the newer Switch 2 consoles and accompanying software will be kept unchanged. This differentiation tactic can mean that the second-generation console’s price is already being harmonized with the current market conditions, or it may be a blatant attempt to synchronize the transition and appeal of both generations of consoles at once. For Canadian buyers who want to purchase an authentic Switch console, especially with the current stock issues for the Switch 2, it is better to act prior to August 1 when it takes effect. These price changes only apply in the Canadian market now, giving a break to other foreign markets’ players.
