Civilization 7 hasn’t quite turned out to be the critical and commercial success that developer Firaxis aimed with the game, as clearly evident by the seventh entry in the legendary strategy series’ current ‘mixed’ player review rating on Steam along with much lower player counts than Civilization 6 and even the decade old Civilization 5. And so to overhaul the gameplay experience in major ways, Firaxis has released the gigantic patch 1.2.2 for Civilization 7 which adds an array of new gameplay mechanics such as Large and Huge Maps, expanded Advanced Game Options, Town Specializations, Beliefs along with Balancing changes, UI Improvements and the community favorite Steam Workshop Support.
So if you’re playing Civilization 7, make sure to apply the latest update as it can offer a drastically different gameplay experience which can revamp your overall impression of the turn-based strategy title in more ways than one. Developer Firaxis definitely hopes patch 1.2.2 to revitalize the game for almost all players and we’ll certainly find out if it works out for the game.
Also, the devs recommend starting a new game or continuing your current save game into the next Age for getting this update to fully work: “For the best experience, we recommend starting a new game, or continuing your current game into the next Age,” Firaxis said.
However, the Large and Huge Maps which feature a total of 10 players in Single Player and 8 in the game’s Multiplayer mode, can be more demanding on many hardware and can lead to “slower turn times or performance drops, especially on lower end hardware.” Firaxis hopes to expand the modes into accommodating 12 players in total in the near future, which “needs a bit more time to make sure increased player counts won’t compromise game stability or performance.”
The new update will now allow players to enable, disable or turn off entirely Legacy Paths in the game along with making changes to a whole lot of parameters including AI difficulty or even bypass Civ Unlocks On Age Transitions.
