Limveld can be an unforgiving region for those diving into Elden Ring Nightreign for the first time. Between the ever-shrinking circle of death, the deadly bosses tucked within various structures, and a slew of locations to scour for exceptional armaments, it can be overwhelming for those dropping in for their inaugural run. This is a FromSoftware Souls game, after all, and it’s one made all the more heart-pounding due to the time restrictions keeping players constantly on the move in these hostile lands.
Fret not. We have tips to share with Nightfarers venturing out to slay bosses across all available Expeditions. May these serve you well in your next run!
How to Make the Most of Each Run in Nightreign
Level Up to Level the Playing Field
Leveling up is the most effective way to boost your Nightfarer’s power and resiliency. There are 15 levels available, which require the spending of runes at Sites of Grace. To quickly climb towards this cap, seek out as many optional boss fights as you can. However, keep in mind that some bosses are best challenged on day two once you’ve leveled a bit; challenging them on day one may take far too much time and block out the opportunity to explore other areas. These formidable foes often include field and castle bosses. Do not spend much, if any, time on trash mobs. Bosses are more lucrative targets.
Should you die, you will lose a level. This can be a rather punishing setback, leaving you in a less-than-ideal position come day three. Be sure to run back and regain your lost runes, if possible, to offset the penalty as much as possible. If you don’t see the runes where you died, look for an enemy in the same vicinity with a glowing gold aura; they are in possession of the runes.
Relevant Element
Before setting out on an expedition, take note of the Nightlord’s weakness. It is the icon listed next to their profile. For example, the Gaping Jaw is weak to poison. Inflicting poison will completely interrupt the boss and cause it to throw up. Wielding a Nightlord’s weakness not only boosts damage, but it can reduce offensive and defensive capabilities—it can, in some cases, end their problematic high damage phases.
Right after dropping in, use the detailed view of the map to find locations that have a higher chance of weapons dropping with the desired ailment. These points of interest should be prioritized before the circle blocks off your access.
Enough Flasks for the Task
Now let’s talk about the ever crucial health bar. We want to see plenty of red filling that corner of the screen. Nightfarers only have a few flasks to their name when they start, but they also have very little health. The primary objective is still leveling, which will extend that health bar (and the others). If you want added healing capabilities, seek out Church of Marika altars to gain extra flask charges.
If you’re confident in your ability to avoid damage, you don’t need to prioritize flasks. In fact, you probably shouldn’t be worrying too much about these altar locations on day one unless they happen to be right next to your drop point or another target point of interest. Once you have leveled beyond the bosses’ ability to one-shot you, then the extra flasks will have more value.
Forge Ahead with Better Gear
The quality of your gear can make all the difference. Gear falls into one of four categories: Common (grey), Uncommon (blue), Rare (purple), and Legendary (gold). The higher the better, obviously. If your Nightfarer is rocking a grey or blue weapon, be sure to visit at least one mine and defeat the boss within. One of the boss’s two available rewards will be a Smithing Stone 2, which will raise a weapon to purple tier at an anvil (located near merchants). If you’re feeling bold, a magma wyrm guards an altar at the bottom of the crater Shifting Earth event that allows for a legendary tier upgrade.
Simply having Ironeye in the party increases the change for higher tier gear to drop, thanks to his passive. This effect stacks with other items or buffs that increase the likelihood of better drops.
Tower Power
High tier gear and talismans are sought after components of an increasingly competent build coming together over the course of a run. Talismans, specifically, provide an array of passives that last for the entirety of the current run. They can significantly augment Nightfarers to make them more of a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. Sorcery towers (also referred to by many as mage towers and rise towers) are quick ways to try your luck at snagging a talisman if you can locate the appropriate unlock method. This may be in the form of a blue sigil on a wall or in a pond; or it might be a tree, or even elusive tree trunk, that looks slightly out of place; or it could be a gargoyle. Whichever it is, striking/destroying the object will satisfy the requirement an let you into the tower, where rewards await on the top floor.
With these tips in mind, you can now venture into Limveld with a bit more knowledge and better guide your efforts as you prepare to square off against the Nightlords.
