ARK has garnered a good reputation through the years, it literally was one of the main games that Youtubers played a decade ago or more. Yes, I feel old for making that statement, but back in the day ARK was actually pretty decent, and you could do plenty of things in it. Now the reputation of Studio Wildcard is buried, along with any quality thing they have done in the past, they truly damaged the fanbase. ARK Survival Ascended’s new season pass paywalls some important content such as new buildings and skill trees, what should have been a free update is basically a paid feature, which is outrageous. ARK does it again
Many people blame Snail Games for the outrageous decisions that have been happening through the years. Maximizing profits for the most minimum amount of quality seems to be the name of the game in 2025. If a publisher that behaves like the triple A mobs dares to set their hands on an indie project, chances are that the same project will just become into a soulless cash cow. Free updates are the norm, and developers that do not respect that fact get shunned away, it is true that developers are basically bound by the will of a publisher, but they somehow need to push back with the support of the community.
ARK used to be decent, but bad decisions can pretty much drive any decent game into the ground. We have seen it happen with countless of projects before, and the sad part is that many unknowingly bash on the developers, rather than the people who handles the finances and makes the decisions. It somehow seems as if publishers were immune to criticism, while they should be the ones to get criticized the most, rather than the hard working developers themselves.
