In an astounding feat of videogame greatness and sheer playability, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been confirmed to have sold over 60 Million units worldwide, after 10 years of it’s release. The sales figure only includes the original version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt along with the GOTY edition, not counting the sales of the expansion packs that came later.
Adam Badowski, joint CEO of CD Projekt, said this on The Witcher 3’s illustrious sales milestone:
Without a doubt, the third part of Geralt’s adventures marks a pivotal point in our history. The game earned hundreds of awards and solidified our studio’s standing, but more importantly, it brought untold hours of adventures and emotions to millions of games the world over. I am proud to announce that since its release The Witcher 3 has sold over 60 million copies, securing a place among the bestselling video games in all history, and motivating us to carry on with intensive work on the next trilogy set in this universe.
The Witcher 3 was confirmed to reach 50 Million sold units in 2023 which means the decade old RPG had managed to move 10 Million additional copies in the past two years, which is extremely impressive and rare for a game that originally came out back in 2015.
Also, developer CD Projekt RED has announced they have one more patch incoming for The Witcher 3 which will add cross-platform mod support across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S which is pretty exciting as this can add a whole new lease of life into the game.
“Creating, sharing, and enjoying mods will be easier and more accessible, as players on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S will be able to share a modding ecosystem,” CD Projekt RED stated in the official announcement. However, a mod.io account, connected to a CD Projekt Red account, will be essential for accessing the cross platform mod support feature.
“Due to specific content guidelines and selection criteria for each platform, it may not be possible to bring every mod uploaded on PC to console,” CD Projekt explained. “Mods available on mod.io must also adhere to our Fan Content Guidelines and CD Projekt Red User Agreement.”
The patch is currently in development and is expected to come out sometimes later this year.
