Square Enix Announces News of Kingdom Hearts 4

With a recent news update, Square Enix has confirmed to everyone that production on Kingdom Hearts 4 is ongoing. The news comes following Square Enix having cancelled the release of the Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link mobile game, and had triggered some expectation of dropping the Kingdom Hearts series among the fans.

Kingdom Hearts 4 was first revealed in April 2022, but not much has been said about the game since then. Although some information about gameplay was released, the majority of the game is still unknown. The fans are keen to hear more, including a possible release date.

In the midst of silence, Square Enix has actually released a statement confirming that they are “hard at work” on Kingdom Hearts 4 and that the series won’t be reaching its conclusion. This was part of a tiny print included at the end of the Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link cancellation announcement. The studio has requested that fans “keep an eye out for further updates.”

Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link’s cancellation subsequently caused concern among fans, who believed that the two games were to have character and story connections. Fans believed the cancellation of the mobile game could be a sign of an issue with Kingdom Hearts 4. Others view the cancellation of Missing-Link differently, however, as the Kingdom Hearts series has been accused of putting significant story content into spin-offs instead of mainline games.

Development of Kingdom Hearts 4 started in 2020, so the game has been under development for at least five years. There is overall speculation that a bigger announcement about the game will be coming out soon. Kingdom Hearts 4 is speculated to possibly show up at Summer Game Fest in June, though fans are warned to keep expectations low.

Square Enix’s latest release should put players’ minds at ease that Kingdom Hearts 4 is indeed ongoing. While awaiting further news from the fans, players are awaiting further information on the game anytime soon.
