Oblivion Remastered has managed to beat the original Oblivion in sales, at least when it comes to the first month. PC gamers still remember the buggy antics of the original, but many of those elements seem to still remain in the new one too. It feels as if it was yesterday that many would discover that they could create a ladder by suspending brushes into thin air. Doing crazy things seems to be a staple of The Elder Scrolls as a series, since their ambitious nature lead the games to be rather broken. One can argue that this could be solved by doing proper testing but, we are speaking of the triple A industry here.
Oblivion Remastered hits a milestone
I always side with the original version of a game, unless its actually broken to the core. However, what you are playing now in the Remastered version is pretty much just a graphical update, the games backend is pretty much the same as the original. Yet, it seems that people will buy the same thing again despite it being a coat of paint, which is painful to watch. Analysts already claim that people are willing to pay $80 or even more for games, but that still remains quite the dubious claim.
It feels as if corporations knew that this cannot last for much longer before things start changing. People do not like this remastered version, and in general, remasters often ruin the feel of the original game. When we bring remakes into the equation, most of the time those destroy the original game with unnecessary additions that disrespect the original vision of the title. Final Fantasy 7 Remake is the best example of a remake that ruined the source material forever.
The industry will keep moving forward in this path towards a dark abyss, there does not seem to be a way to stop this from happening.
