Bungie is worried that Marathon will underperform. This comes right at their worst times, as if it were divine justice, especially with the ongoing controversy about stolen art. Bungie is known to be vile nowadays, but back then they did use to care a lot about what they created. The original Marathon and many other games related to it are free to play and enjoy, this is the soul that was lost. Thankfully, the fan community revived the old games, and they are more than playable in today’s hardware. The new Marathon game is not needed, in fact, it shouldn’t be what it is. We at Infinite Start will cover Bungie’s turmoil.
Bungie is worried about succeeding
Let’s be honest here, the new Marathon looks nothing like the original duology of games. A lot of design elements have been changed to appeal to the masses, and the art style is so uninspired that they even had to steal art from freelance artists. This is outright criminal behavior, and it truly shows the rotten nature of the modern video game industry when it comes to triple A games. Indie games will keep triumphing, however, we can see thieves also starting to pollute the waters of what would be our only hope.
The only way to stop this thievery is to impose some proper legal framework that defends smaller creators against big companies that try to steal from them. Unfortunately, that’s only a solution that would be a thing if rationality reigned over greed, it seems that no matter how many stop consuming, companies won’t stop doubling down on bad practices.
There is still hope for change, and things are cyclical, perhaps this whole madness of the industry can be rectified with another crash of the triple A sphere. People need to stand their ground to protect the hobby they cherish the most, that way we can actually make a positive change that brings quality back to the table.
