The PS2 Scene is amazing, they have done a new breakthrough that will allow people to port PS2 games to PC natively. This means that we will be able to play many classics without the need of emulating, or going through allegedly illegal routes. This is the dream that everyone in the modding community ever wanted, since now doing some hacking will be easier. Once you understand the source code of a game, it is possible to modify it in any way you desire, taking limitations into account. Games that were broken will be fixed, and amazing classics will be expanded, not to mention that preservation also had a win.
PS2 Scene, thank you
An Argentinian developer has decided that present us with PSRetrox, a tool that will allow people with enough know how of the system to do recompilations. The recompiling process can be hard, and it varies per game, much to the like of what happens with the N64 project of the same vein. These years have been a massive win for fans of older video games, and more people are slowly coming to our side after noticing how bad triple A has become.
Older games not only bring quality to the table, but they can be used as amazing learning experiences for those who are interested in game development. The PS2 scene is welcoming, and it can be a good place to start in when it comes to developing something. Many are nostalgic for the greatness of the early 2000s when it comes to gaming, and now that feeling can comeback if you decide to take part of this movement.
Modding a PS2 is very easy thanks to the PS2 scene, and especially thanks to all Argentinian users who have provided the tools to do so. This does not imply that other countries didn’t collaborate to make this reality possible, but they are the most notable group of contributors.
