The Oblivion Remastered is currently taking the gaming world by storm, but not everything about the modernized version of the beloved classic is great and one of them is the original game’s levelling system which was quirky and borderline broken for most players. It had every loot you collect stay locked to the current level of your character while enemies continue to level up with your character throughout the game which means not only many in-game items could be obsolete as you level up higher but several areas of the game could be excruciatingly difficult and frustrating to play if you access them at a higher level.
And in a recent interview, original Oblivion designer Bruce Nesmith has also opened up on the levelling system of the decade old classic and termed it as a ‘mistake’.
“I had a very substantial hand and voice in both levelling systems,” Nesmith stated. “The nuts and bolts work, the mathematical mechanics, that was my work and I’m intimately familiar with how both of those things work.
“I think the world leveling with you was a mistake and that’s proven out by the fact it did not happen the same way in Skryim. That we came up with a much, much better way to continue to provide the player challenge without making it feel like, ‘Oh, it doesn’t matter that I went up in levels, the dungeon went up in levels with me.’ ”
And sadly, even though the recently released Oblivion Remaster has updated and evolved many aspects of the gameplay of the original, it’s levelling system has remained pretty much unchanged and is currently causing woes to a lot of gamers as well. Which has led to many veteran players warning the newcomers to complete the quest in Castle Kvatch early on in the game, preferably before hitting level 10.
In other news of the Oblivion Remastered, the game has already engaged over 4 million players and that number is sure to increase a lot more in the coming weeks.
The Oblivion Remastered is currently out now for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S and is also available through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
