A bunch of screenshots and images have leaked from developer Virtuos’ website, the studio working on the upcoming remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, which is one of the most landmark and beloved RPGs ever made. You can check them all out in this link on Reddit, along with several comparison images between the original version of Oblivion which was released back in 2006 and the remake version, which looks exactly like a current-gen title made with all the latest graphical horsepower and visual flourishes.

The comparison screenshots also do a great job of showcasing just how gorgeous and stunning the newer visuals look and how much they make the entire game world come alive.

Oblivion Remake

When Oblivion was first released, it made huge strides in graphical fidelity and it looks like the upcoming remake is going to offer similar level of visual experiences for players which is great but the real highlight of the remake is it’s vastly improved and evolved gameplay mechanics which should make revisiting the world of Tamriel all the more worthwhile. Oblivion, much like it’s successor Skyrim, was held back largely by it’s gameplay which was clunky and pretty much the weakest part of these great games.

But if the remake manages to overhaul the combat of the original and make all the individual gameplay elements such as blocking, sneaking, stamina etc really shine, we’re looking at what could easily be one of the best gaming experiences of the year, period. A remake of Oblivion that’s powered by the Unreal Engine 5 with completely reworked gameplay has all the makings of one of the best RPG experiences of all time, easily.

It seems Bethesda intends to Shadow-drop the Oblivion remake in the near future or maybe just in a couple of months from now on across all major platforms which is great news for not just everyone who’ve enjoyed the original but for new players who’ve never experienced it.
