Sonic 35th Anniversary: A Sneak Peek at Sega’s 2026 Plans

Sega is already preparing for Sonic the Hedgehog’s 35th anniversary in 2026 by previewing us with an early view of a 2026 calendar that teases massive-scale celebrations. As reported by Comic Book, the calendar, which pre-orders on Amazon for $16.99, is an early glimpse, complete with the prominent art from throughout the series and a new anniversary logo.

The cover of the calendar catches your eye at first glance. Sonic’s thumbs-up is flanked by the seven Chaos Emeralds, which contain legendary figures from each emerald in the shapes of Knuckles, Tails, and Doctor Eggman. Green Emerald stands out in the sense that it features a montage of the covers of the Sonic game series with past and present bridged together as it journeys through the classic Sega Genesis title all the way to Sonic Frontiers.

This calendar is more than a mere timekeeper; it’s a nostalgia trip through Sonic’s storied past. Every month will have cover art from a unique Sonic game, building up to Sonic Frontiers. Although the order in which these games will appear is not yet fully disclosed, featuring Sonic Spinball for March 2026 gives us a wonderful preview of the diverse lineup. There is also a bonus collectible aspect for fans that comes with the calendar, with four die-cut notecards that can be rearranged into individual characters.

Apart from the artwork, the calendar cover also features a new 35th-anniversary logo with a silhouette of Sonic’s head and a Chaos Emerald. Even the logo promises that Sega’s agenda for 2026 may be more than a celebratory calendar in terms of new games, merchandising, etc., and other celebratory events.

With the anniversary not coming around again for another year, Sega’s premature release of this calendar means that a big bash is in the pipeline. Pre-ordering allows the fans to get their paws on a copy of a bit of Sonic history and try to second-guess what surprises Sega have in store. As the future draws near for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, soon to be constructed, the 35th anniversary calendar is a vibrant reminder of Sonic’s age-old heritage and the spine-tingling excitement that awaits us all. Sega is preparing to party like never before, and the 2026 calendar is merely the beginning.
