Mecharashi

Mecharashi is being sued by Square Enix for stealing assets

Mecharashi is a new free to play game, another one into the pile of FOMO shovelware coming to PC. Apparently, the good news about this game is that Square Enix decided to sue it due to copyright violations. It is clear that Mecharashi isn’t original at all, in reality, the game is a 1:1 reproduction of the unreleased Front Mission 2089. BlackJack has worked with Square Enix in the past to make Front Mission games, however, they are now stealing assets from those works despite the binding contract. Not to mention that all of those designs might have had creative input directly from Square Enix. We at Infinite Start will cover this mess.

Mecharashi had it coming

While I do not stand for any of the companies mentioned in this news piece, it is clear that BlackJack just blatantly copied the game in a 1:1 scale. Screenshots are indistinguishable from the unreleased Front Mission game, of course, Mecharashi looks worse to be different. However, this is a trend that has been happening with many indie developers on itch. There’s companies out there that target indie developers and steal their games, doing changes to them so they are “different enough legally”.

This is in spite of the fact that these games just literally look the same. Square Enix might be guilty of terrible frauds with NFTs and a bunch of other crypto bro and Web3 cult stuff, but this is inexcusable. Finally, the company that keeps going negative with new “Final Fantasy” souls-like titles gets a win. If Square Enix happens to win this one, BlackJack will be forced to pay $150.000 per damage caused.

It is clear that this sort of damages can end up accumulating up to a sum of 1 million dollars but, that is still very few for a gacha game that can abuse its players out of their money.
