Epic Games is punishing Fortnite cheaters by locking them into a perpetual chat only mode that will last for around 1 year. Fortnite is one of Epic Games biggest Live Service title, however, as the years have passed, quality downgraded severely. Being used as a hub to crossover with the most unlikely of characters, it seems that the game drank too much from Super Smash Bros. Epic Games is also quite a shady company in itself, forcing indie developers to set games to free is horrible. We at Infinite Start will cover what happens with Epic Games.
Epic is not so epic
Unfortunately for the company behind one of the biggest live service titles, there is a very shady history. Back in the day, they were mostly known for Unreal Engine, a powerful game development engine that is still being developed even today. Games of multiple budgets often get released in Unreal Engine, UE5 is the latest version, and its quite bloated. Some developers often opt to roll back to UE4 to optimize performance of their titles. The fact that everything is just so realistic isn’t worth it when performance and playability is at the stake.
Sadly, not many developers do this, as the company behind it endorses the usage of newer versions to boost revenue. In this revenue driven industry, a change needs to happen to bring back the good games and unearth them. Indie developers are the ones trying to bring that change forward, and many should be committing to cover this effort. People who like video games do to them being fun are a rare breed to find, often replaced by a new crowd of graphic advancements enthusiasts..
As our hobby keeps sinking deep into terrible darkness, the only hope to prevent this from fully happening is to stop supporting these companies. Instead of waiting queues to play a soulless Live Service, you might as well play the good cultured classics from a bygone era.
