DOOM: The Dark Ages Returns Classic Imp Enemy with New Name

DOOM: The Dark Ages Returns Classic Imp Enemy with New Name

DOOM: The Dark Ages is reviving one of the most recognizable enemies in the series, but under a new name—the Imp Stalker. The classic imp design will be one of the less exotic hellspawn breeds found in the new game, merging retro DOOM looks with contemporary gameplay.

Imp Stalker: A Revived Classic DOOM Enemy

Ever since the earliest times, DOOM has had an amazing number of demons, many of which have themselves been reimagined recently in games like DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal. Although id Software has held fast to traditional design with a contemporary spin, DOOM: The Dark Ages takes it a step further by introducing various imp variants as well, like the Imp Stalker.

The Imp Stalker’s appearance is largely derived from its classic 1990s DOOM counterpart, with:

  • Spiked shoulders
  • Mouth glow
  • Traditional attack animations

This strict copy brings the aggressive, high-speed combat of traditional DOOM imps into the present day without changing their iconic looks and attitude.

DOOM: The Dark Ages Blends Classic and Modern Gameplay

While DOOM Eternal focused on flying around and managing resources, DOOM: The Dark Ages seeks to go back to a more classic DOOM experience. Players can look forward to:

  • Rooms filled with bad guys, enabling high-speed demon butchery
  • Strafing movement, with incentive for accurate shooting and quick reflexes
  • Combination of old and new mechanics, providing new gameplay without losing DOOM heritage

While it borrows from the era’s retro style, DOOM: The Dark Ages isn’t merely a high-definition reissue of the originals. The title will feature new mechanics, weapons, and classes of enemies, and increased emphasis on storytelling compared to any of the earlier games.

Several Imp Variants Official

Imp Stalker isn’t the only imp players will face. DOOM: The Dark Ages trailers also depict another type of imp, which looks very much like the 2016 and Eternal versions. This implies that the Imp Stalker’s name might serve to differentiate it from other imp types featured in the game.

With DOOM: The Dark Ages set to hit stores in May, fans won’t have long to wait to experience this mix of old and new demon-slaying action.
