One of the most anticipated titles of the year, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has already hit another sales milestone as Ubisoft announced the Open World title currently reaching 2 million players in just 2 days after release. Though the publisher is yet to provide any official sales figures for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, it’s confirmed that the game has already surpassed launch numbers of both Assassin’s Creed Origins and Odyssey which definitely indicates that Shadows is turning out to be just the hit Ubisoft desperately needs.
It’s also official that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is currently the top-selling game on Steam, where publisher Ubisoft has recently returned after many years of exclusivity on Epic Games Store.
Also, at the time of this writing, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is at 58,894 concurrent players on Steam, which makes the game easily one of the top 20 most played titles on the platform and those numbers are only expected to grow further in the coming days and weeks. The total player count of Shadows is likely much higher when we take players on both Playstation 5 and the Xbox Series X|S systems into account. But neither Sony nor Microsoft has yet to confirm or release any official numbers regarding the game.
However assuming the budget of Assassin’s Creed Shadows which is likely to be upwards of many hundreds of millions of dollars, it’s going to need a whole lot more players and sold units to come at a point of breaking even, let alone actually making a profit for Ubisoft. But so far, Shadows certainly seems to be on the right track in terms of both critical and commercial success with the game receiving praises from the critics as well as seeing promising sales in all of the platforms it was released for.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows came out on March 20 for Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S and the PC platform.
