The Way of Death is a new Indie Souls like for PC that dropped a demo on the Steam Store. It is not often that Indie developers try to make souls likes, but when they do, it tends to be interesting. Players will be able to experience a feudal period of Japan, similar to Sekiro, but there’s a big twist with this new game. The perspective of The Way of Death is very different to your average title in the genre. We at Infinite Start will unravel more details about this new and tough addition to the indie fray.

Heaven or Hell

You play as a swordsman who has traveled to the Afterlife to hone his skills. While the trope might have already been used in some other works before, it is quite a badass one to have. The distinguishing feature that was never before seen in this genre, is that this whole game happens on top down perspective. Yes, players will have to engage with hordes of enemies while looking right from the top, and that’s obviously quite different to the average Souls-like experience.

Your sword is your most important tool, to succeed, you will need to hone your mastery of timing. Fighting Yokai is no joke, at its often not a one on one affair to be had with those demonic beings from the other world. Often you will find yourself struggling to progress, those who do however, are those who never give up. Perseverance is one important aspect of games that is being lost to instant gratification systems.

By adding systems like this, your games often become dull and soulless, but it is important to know that difficulty balancing can also be hard. In case you are interested in the game, a demo can be played by anyone. While there’s still no release date, it can be assumed that it might drop soon on the year 2025.
