NetEase Games has finally revealed Human Torch’s gameplay for Marvel Rivals, highlighting the classic hero’s blazing powers in action. The Fantastic Four member will be added to the game’s growing roster on February 21, along with his teammate The Thing, as part of a mid-season update.
Human Torch’s Blazing Combat Style
The recently released gameplay trailer on X showcases Johnny Storm’s distinct fight style, blending mobility and heavy damage fire attacks. Below is what players can look forward to:
- Flame Projection – Human Torch can project fireballs to attack enemies and cause extended ranged damage.
- Aerial Combat – His flying capability makes him a versatile hero, just like Iron Man.
- Fire Slam – Heavy dive attack that sets enemies ablaze when landing.
- Flame Walls – Produces walls of flames to manage space during combat, optimal for offense and defense.
- Team-Up Ability with Storm – Merges Storm’s control over the winds and Johnny’s fire to generate firespouting tornadoes, destroying the opponent in their path.
The Thing and Further Update Content
Aside from Human Torch, The Thing will also be introduced in Marvel Rivals as a Vanguard-class hero specializing in tank-like combat. While complete details are still being kept under wraps, early gameplay teases that he plays like Hulk, using raw brute strength to overpower enemies.
The update includes:
- A new Central Park map, where Dracula’s armies have taken over the iconic NYC landmark.
- Character balance changes that could change the competitive meta.
- A new mechanism for players to spend excess Chrono Tokens on Units, granting greater freedom to access content.
Future Skins and Additions
Leaks point to Human Torch coming in a Negative Zone-inspired skin based on his escapades in the Marvel Universe’s darkest alleys. If this were the case, it would fit Marvel Rivals’ practice of introducing alternate forms of Fantastic Four characters like Malice for Invisible Woman and The Maker for Mister Fantastic.
As Marvel Rivals continues to grow, this update is a big step for the game’s expanding roster of heroes and continuing seasonal content. Players who have been waiting to play with Human Torch and The Thing won’t have to wait much longer, with both characters debuting on February 21.
