GOG Dreamlist made by GOG is an initiative to try and preserve the older days of gaming, from any console, on PC. Many companies seem to ignore the past of the medium, and they do it for obvious reasons. Back in the day there was lots of quality and interesting ideas, however, they are deemed to risky now. Older games do not line up lots of money like they want, therefore, they are abandoned. Not to mention that older titles are pretty much a risk to newer sloppy ones in itself. People can vote at the Dreamlist page, for that, they need to have a GOG account for it to count. GOG is the only service where you can legally buy digital games and actually own them, this approach should be normalized in the industry. However, it is clear that not many companies agree with giving ownership rights to their users. The way GOG does this is by providing people with the installer files once a purchase is done. You don’t even need to use the GOG Galaxy platform to use your games, its a simple as just installing from an EXE file.
This approach hankers back to the day of physical media, when people would buy a CD with the game from a retailer to install a copy of their game. Back when this method existed, intrusive DRM like Denuvo wasn’t that common like it is today. Thanks to this DRM technology, people have stopped owning what they buy, and GOG is pretty much against this. Consumers should perhaps opt to acquire games they can own rather than just renting their own titles for an undisclosed period of time. Many of the games in the list are also trapped in older hardware, and they deserve a second chance to live today.
