EA Willing to Move Battlefield Release Window to Account for this Year’s Competition, EA CEO says

2025 is looking as one of biggest years for Gaming as it’s currently packed with powerhouse AAA releases such as the upcoming Borderlands 4, Ghost of Yotei, Mafia: The Old Country along with a new Call of Duty sometimes in the later part of the year, besides the Nintendo Switch 2 console. But the real undisputed star of this year is definitely Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 6, which is slated for a fall 2025 release.

And although there’s no official Release date so far, the news that a new GTA title is expected to come out this year is more than enough for all other big companies and publishers to make every necessary adjustment to the release window of their games. Cause obviously it’s not advisable for any other title, no matter how big or acclaimed they are, to even get anywhere near the launch window of the GTA Juggernaut cause it’d just get obscured to oblivion.

And EA CEO Andrew Wilson admitted in a recent financial call that the company intends to make all the necessary changes to the release window of the next Battlefield title in order to make sure the game gets it’s required space in the current marketplace, especially with so many other great and highly anticipated titles releasing this year.

“Certainly we exist in a competitive marketplace,” Wilson stated regarding this specific topic. “I’ve had the great fortune to be in this company for 25 years and we have done a great job of competing with all of our great franchises over time.”

“That being said, we’ve invested more in this Battlefield than any Battlefield before. We have four studios. We’ve had a meaningful amount of time. We’re looking for this to be the biggest Battlefield we’ve ever made. And we of course want to make sure that we launch that into a window where we can deliver on the fullness of the promise of what Battlefield can be and grow the community to a level that is commensurate with the size of the game that we’re making.”

“I do believe that this year might be a nuanced year relative to competition. There may be some things happening in the year that may cause us to think differently about our launch timing. We have an FY 26 launch window that the team is targeting. We believe the game will be great and ready at that time, but if we got close to that timeframe and believed that this wasn’t going to be a great window for us, then we would take a look at what an alternate window might be that would give us the appropriate time, energy, and player acquisition opportunity for this Battlefield to be all that it needed to be.”

That’s definitely the most sensible and practical course of action for any game on Earth in the year of 2025. And as of right now, the next Battlefield title is expected to arrive sometimes in March 2026, which would still be under the company’s fiscal year.

The teams currently working on the next Battlefield game are the series’ original Sweden-based developer DICE, Dead Space remake and Star Wars: Squadrons developer Motive, U.S. studio Ripple Effect, and UK–based Criterion Games from Need for Speed Unbound (as well as the Burnout series of racing games) who has recently joined development for the next Battlefield.
