Assassin's Creed Shadows featured...

The upcoming and highly anticipated Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be getting a prequel in the form of a new manga, Ubisoft has recently announced on X/Twitter. The manga will feature “a young Assassin apprentice” and the story will be centered around her fight against the Templar Order in feudal Japan. It will also be available in Japan first, and will release in other parts of the world after the game’s scheduled launch on March 20, Ubisoft has currently confirmed.

“Discover the official prequel of the game,” Ubisoft stated. “Follow the story a young Assassin apprentice as she fights against the growing presence of the Templars order in Japan.”

Assassin's Creed Shadows...

Also, the assassin featured in the manga is not the game’s protagonist Naoe, which indicates that she might be part of some of the past events which will lead up to the story of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and will be connected to the game by an overarching narrative which are pretty common in the franchise. It’s important to remember that the Assassin’s Creed series has always depicted an immensely rich and interconnected lore with underlying historical context in terms of the series’ key characters. This is a hallmark feature of the whole franchise which harkens back even to the days of the very first game in the series.

However, it’s unclear as of right now whether the manga will be part of a serialized story or just be contained in a single issue. But whatever form it takes, it’ll definitely flesh out the background narrative for the upcoming game in several ways, adding more depth and historical significance to the central plot of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

The upcoming entry in the long running Assassin’s Creed franchise is definitely the biggest and the most ambitious one till date, with the game expected to take the series to whole new heights in terms of both Open World design elements and the series’ signature parkour-based stealth mechanics.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to arrive on March 20 for Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S and the PC platform.
