Resident Evil 6 was widely criticized after its release in 2012. Although some players praised Leon’s Campaign, others didn’t fail to mention the fact that the game strayed too far from the original survival-horror franchise’s tradition. That said, Resident Evil 6 still made big figures for Capcom and quickly became a lucrative title for the developers despite being the most criticized title in the the major series of the Resident Evil franchise.
Although Resident Evil 6 secured a low amount of players for its total fanbase, the franchise has secured millions of loyal fans which are always there to anticipate new releases from the franchise’s major sequel. On that note, rumors about Capcom bringing Resident Evil 6 to modern consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X has been airing, but there’s a catch.
A recent Resident Evil 6 ESRB rating noted by VGC suggests that the title may be making its way to the PS5 and Xbox Series X later in 2025. Some players have deemed the PS5 and Xbox Series X ports unnecessary since the title can be played on both consoles due to their backward compatibility. Others have acknowledged that fact, but to add more fuel, they suggest the ports may come with even more spice than the original offering something new to Resident Evil players.
The ESRB rating surprisingly comes a fews days before Xbox Developer Direct on January 23 which is rumored to announce a new title from a Japanese IP with decades of history. While there’s no official announcement hinting at the possibility of the new entry being a Resident Evil title, particularly Resident Evil 6, or even a title related to Capcom, there may be a possibility.
Although just a hasty conclusion, a Resident Evil 6 Remastered probably isn’t going to garner much excitement among players. That being said, with Resident Evil 6 rumored to be make a comeback to PS5 and Xbox Series X, fans can expect new content from the title’s remastered version on their favorite consoles, if the rumor proves true.
