PS6 Leak Suggests Console’s Pre-Silicon Validation Stage

Just like before the release of any other console from a reputable console company, PS6 has seen countless rumors, with some suggesting it would push the PS5 to equal its predecessor’s life cycle with a late 2027 release as estimated by several data miners and leakers.

NeoGaf user Kepler_L2 known to drop reliable leaks and updates on PlayStation consoles recently reported that the PS6 is “design-complete” and currently in “pre-si[licon] validation, indicating that the PS6 is current awaiting the production of its first physical prototypes rather than digital specs.

Known to be at an SOC tapeout phase, Sony has been incorporating the target chip notably in its most recent consoles. The System-on-Chip feature makes the console faster, lighter, and much more smaller in size than it was originally meant to be – even cutting down production costs.

That aside, from Kepler_L2’s report on NeoGaf, one could conclude that the PS6 would launch roughly at the start of 2028, or at late 2027, if history were to repeat itself, that is. Sony president and CFO Hiroki Totoki has already hinted at the next-gen console’s release period when he stated in a financial report published in February 2024 that the 2020 PlayStation 5 had already entered “the latter half” of its life cycle at the time. The statement was later confirmed by Sony SVP Naomi Matsuoka who signified that the PS6 is on course to hit the market no later than 2028.

The manufacturing process for the PlayStation 6’s (PS6) chip is still uncertain. For context, the PS5 uses a 7nm process, while the PS5 Pro uses a 6nm process. The PS6 is expected to feature AMD’s new UDNA architecture and a 3nm die shrink, but it’s unclear if 3nm will be the only process used. With the release of the PS6 drawing ever closer, many PlayStation console users feel they haven’t had enough time with the PS5 and PS5 Pro, which all seem relatively new to them, while others are driven with excitement as they would soon get to experience the next-gen console first hand in around late 2027 to early 2028.

That said, if the PS6 is released in late 2027, players estimate that the console would hit the market just before Xbox Series X|S latest console(s) which would be reportedly released in 2028. Either way, if the A0 SOC enters its prototype stages in late 2025, fans should expect to spot PS6 hardware leaks in early 2026.
