Fallout 76: Massive update on January 21

Fallout 76, a highly-respected title on Steam, has recently been facing major server issues leading to crashes while in-game and temporary shutdowns of the game’s server every now and then. In a recent X post by @BethesdaSupport, the game’s developer revealed that it was aiming to release a massive maintenance update on January 21 which would address several crashes, bugs, glitches, and server errors.

They also revealed that in the cause of releasing the update, they would temporarily shut down the server to eliminate any hindrance. The update is a response to Fallout 76 players’ constant backlash and complaints on the game’s issues, and game-breaking glitches that have reportedly rendered the game “unplayable”.

On Tuesday, January 21 at 10am ET/9am CT, we are bringing @Fallout 76 offline on all platforms to apply an update.

Since the release of the game’s 21st major update on December 3, 2024, titled the Gleaming Depths season, a growing number of players have voiced out their frustrations regarding the frequent crashes and numerous bugs present in the game. Notably, players have reported such cases even before the game’s 21st major update, signifying that players have been facing these angering crashes since a long a time.

But with Bethesda’s recent X post, Fallout 76 players’ are clearly excited about a possible fix coming to their beloved game. While the post explains the game’s server would be taken offline on the stated date, it doesn’t specify how long it would take for it to go online again. Having said that, Bethesda didn’t fail to state that the temporary shutdown would be for all supported platforms, explaining that the update would provide fixes to the game’s unwanted crashes for all platforms and not just for Steam users.

Bethesda’s support team also didn’t detail the specific issues that the update would fix, but based on assumptions, the game’s frequent crashes would be supposedly fixed, at the very least. Fallout 76 fans are clearly excited about the title’s next major update on January 21. And as the day draws closer, players are hopeful that the update would fix a majority, if not all, of their most dreaded bugs and glitches in the game.
