A recent rumor suggests that a highly-anticipated fantasy RPG Fable, which is an Xbox exclusive title, could be slated for launch on the PlayStation 5, notably at the same time as the Xbox port. Originally announced as an Xbox Series X/S and PC title, the title reboot is expected to launch sometime in late 2025 as fans speculate.
Xbox’s Shift Away from Exclusivity
The Fable franchise has been a staple of Xbox since 2004, with its satirical take on fairy tales and open-ended RPG gameplay. However, Microsoft has been rethinking its exclusivity strategy, with CEO Phil Spencer previously stating that Xbox aims to “evolve” by bringing first-party titles to a wider audience.
Spanish gaming site Vandal recently claimed that Fable might appear on PS5 as a day-one release, further fueling speculation that Xbox is embracing multi-platform launches. Industry insider Jez Corden of Windows Central also suggested last year that Fable would likely come to PS5 eventually—if not at launch, then later—to help Microsoft recoup development costs.
Mixed Fan Reactions to the Reboot
While longtime Fable fans are eager to return to Albion, not everyone has embraced the new vision from Playground Games. The game’s 2023 trailer faced backlash over the main character’s design, with some players asking for character customization. However, the game’s environments and voice acting were widely praised.
While Fable is still set for a 2025 release, details remain scarce. Microsoft is expected to provide new information later this year, likely after the release of Avowed in February. If the PS5 rumor turns out to be true, it would mark a major turning point for Xbox exclusives—and a huge win for PlayStation fans. Also, if the rumor proves true, the title would clearly become a massive hit on the PS5 in mere days after its release, snagging one of the best RPGs on the console and sustaining a huge player base for a really long time.
