EA has announced that Dragon Age: The Veilguard has missed the company’s internal revenue targets by nearly 50% as the Action RPG only had 1.5 Million players during the past quarter which are just about half of what EA had expected from the game (which would be around 3 Million players) in that time. In a press release of the Company’s preliminary Q3 FY2025 earnings report, EA has announced that it was forced to lower the revenue forecast for both the quarter and fiscal year after last year’s Dragon Age: The Veilguard had missed financial expectations by a significant margin.

“Dragon Age engaged approximately 1.5 million players during the quarter, down nearly 50% from the company’s expectations,” EA stated. “During Q3, we continued to deliver high-quality games and experiences across our portfolio; however, Dragon Age and EA SPORTS FC 25 underperformed our net bookings expectations,” said EA CEO Andrew Wilson in a prepared statement. “We remain confident in our long-term strategy and expect a return to growth in FY26, as we execute against our pipeline.”

However, EA didn’t reveal any actual sales number of Dragon Age: The Veilguard which is also available to play as part of the Company’s Play Pro subscription service. But still it’s doubtful whether Veilguard had actually managed to garner a high sales number cause the publisher would’ve clearly announced such as it’s been well over 2 months since the game’s release.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Although it’s important to note that 1.5 Million isn’t exactly a particularly terrible sales number by any means and publisher’s overestimating a game’s sales figures isn’t exactly new either. However, those numbers do clearly suggest that the fanbase for the long running and acclaimed Dragon Age series of games haven’t been too excited about the new installment, or some of the directions the game has chosen to take the series into.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard was released on October 31, 2024 to generally favorable reviews from critics. The game’s combat and characters received praise from critics and gamers alike.
