Despite Square Enix reiterating on several occasions that the last two Final Fantasy installments have not met their sales expectations (specifically referring to Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth), it seems the company has no intention of abandoning its flagship series. Or at least, that’s what a recent leak suggests.
According to 4Chan, a remaster of the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy is in the works for PS5, Xbox, and PC. While the credibility of such rumors is always in question, many leaks from anonymous sources have proven to be true in the past, making it worth paying attention.
The leak claims that each game in the trilogy—Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2, and Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns—will receive individual remasters, each priced at $50. A bundle of all three will be available for $129.99. Additionally, players who already own the games on PC or Xbox will reportedly receive a discount on the remasters.
These remasters are expected to support 4K resolution at 60 FPS, feature enhanced textures, particle effects, and include all DLC. For PS5, the remasters will supposedly make use of DualSense features, although specifics are unclear. The soundtracks will also be revamped with remixes of the original themes.
As per the leak, the Final Fantasy XIII remasters are set for release in early 2025. However, until Square Enix officially confirms this information, it’s best to take this rumor with caution.
